The Firm has an annual budget for charitable donations and a small committee that has responsibility for building awareness, sensitizing the staff to this area and encouraging participation on their part.
Support of Charities and Associations
Several partners of are on the board of Kenyan charities and assist in the running of these charities.
Our senior partner, Mr. Neville Warren, is a trustee of various charitable trusts including the Duncan Charitable Trust.
Our managing partner, Mr. Hamish Keith has in the past the Chairman of the British Business Association of Kenya as well as a trustee and honorary legal advisor to several associations.
Mr. Evans Monari is actively involved as a Member of the Council of the Law Society of Kenya in its various committees, as a presenter and speaker at its various forums and seminars. He has also been recently elected as Secretary of the Selection Panel for the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Committee.
Charitable Projects
Our projects over the year include donations to the following charities: -
Operation Smile – a charity that performs medical surgery to correct palate deformities in children. Staff participated in Run.
The Dettol Heart Run - whose objective is to perform free heart surgery for disadvantaged children and young adults
Safaricom Challenge/Lewa Foundation – a charity Run to raise money for building Schools for the Lewa Community in Laikipia District, Kenya.
The ‘Flying Toilets’ project to build pit latrines in one of the city slums.
Donations to the Moot Club of the Law Faculty at Moi Eldoret University to support training of advocacy.
Safaricom Charity Auction– we purchased and sold a pedigree bull to raise money for a Thika School for destitute children.
Contributions to The National Famine Relief Fund.
The Firm established and supports Junior Achievement Kenya.
Supporting the Nairobi Women's Hospital Gender Violence Recovery Centre.
Due to restrictions on publicity for the legal profession, these donations are not publicised in the media.
Pro Bono Work
Our lawyers do a considerable amount of pro bono work for indigent individuals and charities.
We have established a number of charitable and other foundations without any charge for legal fees. The Firm advises and assists a number of charities in the furtherance of their objects, such as Junior Achievements Kenya Limited referred to above.
Our Employees
We have a comprehensive medical policy and a capacity building program for our staff. Recognising the prevalence and devastating effects of AIDS, we actively assist in helping HIV positive employees obtain the necessary anti-retroviral medication and so as to enable them to continue being productive members of society and most importantly to continue supporting their families.
We also have a football team that includes staff from all sectors of the Firm and participates in inter-firm matches.
