Careers

D&F offers opportunities for Lawyers and Trainees interested in the Firm’s core practice areas.

Training:

The Firm is proud of its reputation as one of the preferred practices in Kenya for training new lawyers. Not only are trainees involved in and exposed at an early stage to substantial legal work with responsibility, but also the convivial atmosphere and collegiality in our offices makes Daly & Figgis an attractive place in which to work. We endeavour to retain every trainee who has demonstrated competence, commitment and a team spirit.

We offer between two to four training places each year. The competition for places is invariably high. Interviews take place between September and November for the January intake of the following year.

Applications should be submitted no earlier than the beginning of August and must be received by no later than 31st October for the January intake. In selecting trainees we look not only for excellent academic transcripts from university and high school, but also a pleasant and effective personality (for which the interview is critical), sporting or other accomplishments, meaningful extra curricular activities are also contributory factors. Applications should be addressed to the Partner in charge of the Training Committee, Ms. Ashwini Bhandari.

IMPORTANT: Please note that the pupillage places available for the year 2012 have already been filled. Applicants are encouraged to apply for the pupillage places available from January 2013 by sending their applications between August and October 2012.

Work Experience:

D&Falso offers a short work experience programme to a limited number of senior high school and law school students each year.

Recruitment of Qualified Lawyers:

Whilst our training programme is integral to the growth of the firm and provides the most common entry point for a career withD&F, we do recruit qualified lawyers at levels of experience ranging from recently qualified advocates to experienced partners from other firms. Such recruitment is driven entirely by the firm’s needs at the time and the strengths and abilities of the individuals involved.

External training programmes for partners and associates is encouraged. The Firm also recognises that its lawyers should lead lives that are well balanced between time at work and time for recreation, leisure and a family life.

The overall objective ofD&F is to be a well recognised and leading commercial law firm in East Africa, which has a fine reputation for excellence in competence, reliability, efficiency, and commitment to the best interests of the client.
